LORNE GLENDON "GLEN" WELLS

June 28, 2017

Lorne Glendon "Glen" Wells, of Cargill, died at Walkerton hospital, surrounded by family, Wednesday, June 28, 2017. He was 82. Beloved husband of Audrey Wells (nee Parker) for 59 years. Loving father of Bill and Bobbi Lee (Cory Culbert). Proud grampa of Jackson and Morgan. Dear brother of Ron (Nadine) and Don (Lorraine), and brother-in-law of Beatrice Wells and Auna Wells, Bob Parker, Mary Schmidt (Larry) and Ted Parker (Geraldine). He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Glen was predeceased by his parents, Lorne and Lillian (nee Taylor) Wells; brothers, George, Gordon and Jim; and sisters, Gloria Bester, Grace Parker and Gladys Parker; brothers-in-law, Francis Parker and Jim Parker; and sister-in-law, Bernice Parker. In 1972, Glen (above) became manager of the Bruce Community Pasture, just west of Underwood, with assistant Ted Parker. They treated the pasture farm as if it were their own by caring for the cattle, maintaining fences and buildings, clipping pastures and keeping the farm operating smoothly. The cattle were checked daily for sickness. Lame and sick cattle were initially treated in the field but if not responding well, were taken into the corral for further treatment. Salt and mineral wee available freely at all times and the cattle were rotated to fresh pasture every few days. At the end of the season, a round-up was performed on horseback by the manager, along with other local people with horses. Following many years of service, Wells and Parker retired. Glen's family received relatives and friends, Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at the Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton. The funeral was held Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas' Anglican Church, Walkerton, with Rev. Rob Hiscox officiating. Interment, Douglas Hill Cemetery, with a reception at the Cargill Community Centre. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson's Society, MS Society, or St. Thomas' Anglican Church, would be appreciated by the family. I’ll tell old St. Peter I don’t care where he puts me As long as I can play and sing for the people of Bruce County.” -- From “Tribute to Bruce County” by Glen Wells
