More concerns about the loss of cardboard-recycling bins in Kincardine

April 22, 2016

RE: "Readers react to removal of cardboard-recycling bins in Kincardine"

To reply to Sheri Sprung:

I noticed that the cardboard bins had been completely filled and a great deal of extra cardboard was piled up on the ground in front of them while on my way by there the other day.

The thing is, the bins were all empty only three days before.

It would appear that there has been some abuse of the "free" service by one or more unscrupulous individuals so, therefore, we must all suffer the consequences.

Don't blame the municipality or the recycling company for not tending to them. Blame the idiots who left the garbage there with no thought for anyone else.

To the Editor:

If the bins are full, it means that people are using them rather than putting cardboard in the garbage. The simplest answer appears to be to empty them more often or have more bins available.

I am sure many municipal employees pass them on their way to work, at either the municipal office or at the "dump," and can see if they are full. Surely a phone call could alert whoever is in charge to get the bins emptied.

Also, regarding recycling, we, in Kincardine, cannot put as many categories of recyclables into our Blue Boxes as other municipalities, e.g. Goderich. Why is it that if I want to recycle coffee pods or some types of plastic bags, I have to go to either the Davidson Centre or the library (not even the landfill)?

I want to recycle in one spot, my Blue Box. I do not want to go to one spot for cardboard, another for other plastics, and my Blue Bin for some.

I wanted to buy a "green cone digester" so I visited the municipal web page and there was a phone number to get one. I called and found out there are none available and no plans to get more. It was suggested I call Ripley (yes, they have them and will sell me one).

We, as taxpayers, deserve better
