Our sympathy to Deanna Reavie and all the family in the loss of Stuart Reavie. He served our community so well in his various roles.

Sympathy also to Gwen Harrison and her family on the death of Howard Harrison.

We also grieve with Donna Colwell Zeigler of Port Elgin, her daughter, Karen, and family on the untimely death of Jim Prentice.

Friends of Sylvia Hasbury and Sandra MacDonald gathered to celebrate their birthdays and also to wish Wendy Houghton all the best as her family leaves the area.

Mary Anne Kukoly enjoyed a weekend away with her cousin, Betty and Ken Morrison. The fall colors were spectacular. While in Hunstville, they also ventured to the Bala Cranberry Festival. Because the weather was so great, they had a huge turnout.

This past Thursday, Mary Anne visited with Ruth McCosh in Goderich.

Members of the Ripley Horticultural Society appreciated and enjoyed hearing from Rachel Thompson, formerly of New Zealand, on flower designs and landscape design and maintenance, for the month of September; and from Bill Smith who spoke on the history of Gertrude and Beatrix, two women who were the forerunners in their field of horticulture and flower design, for the October meeting.

John and Joyce Farrell enjoyed supper at Elmira with family members, Sunday.

Everyone enjoyed the Curling Club Brunch Sunday. Lots of great food and conversation. Curling is starting up before Christmas; it's a great sport to learn.

Recent visitors with Jim and Fran Farrell were Simon and Jan Logtenberg of Dungannon, and Jamie, Crystal and Danica Farrell of Holstein.

Jim and Fran Farrell and Barb and Tom Hicks of Rockwood had supper with Jeff and Carmen Knapp, Sunday evening.

Cheryl Bridge and Mary Beth Kerr attended the 90th birthday party for Mildred Griffith, held Saturday night in Kincardine. Many friends, family and new and old acquaintances, attended to share memories and reminisce. Congratulations, Mildred!

Carman and Cheryl Bridge enjoyed lunch and a visit with her sister, Diana, and her husband, Ron Ellis, of Goderich, Sunday. They enjoyed the drive down and the fall colors of the trees along the way. Many farmers are still very busy with the fall harvest, so we still need to be vigilant when travelling on our roads and highways and making travel safe for everyone.

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Ladies, a reminder of the next Purple Grove Women's Institute meeting to be held at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Nov. 2. The speaker will be Yolanda Cameron about Wes for Youth. All are welcome to come out and attend the meeting.

The October meeting of the Purple Grove Women's Institute was held at the Community Centre. The Roll Call: canning and/or freezing hints, was much appreciated by everyone. Janet Rhody read the Scripture.

Guests from Karishea  and Reid’s Corner’s Women’s Institutes and ladies from the Ripley area, appreciated hearing the guest speaker, Jacqueline Doummar, Southwest Health Self-Management Program and Health Care System director. She was very knowledgeable and helpful about the current health care system and the ways to navigate it with the health care providers.

Delegates for the upcoming Area Convention and Bruce County Rally were selected. On behalf of the ones putting on a food booth for Bob Emmerson’s auction, Mary Anne Kukoly asked for baked goods for the booth. Mary Anne also asked for pies for the meal the ladies are catering for the Lions Club at the end of October.

Wilma Sutton and Janet Nixon provided a great lunch for all attending.

A thought for what it is worth: “If you don’t know where you are going, it is pretty hard to get there.”
