July has been a busy month! Congratulations to the organizers of the many celebrations throughout the community - everyone has been enjoying them!

Here at home, families have been celebrating Canada’s 150 too. It's so encouraging to see all the red-and-white Canada shirts and flags. We are proud to be Canadians, eh?!

The family of Doug and Shirley MacDonald was home recently to celebrate the Canadian and American holidays: Ian and Holly, Pippa and Lochland MacDonald of Calgary, Alberta; Sheena, William, Alayna, and Ethan Houghton of Midland, Michigan; Stefani and Mike Simpson of Chatteaugay, New York State; Andrew, Diane and Alex MacDonald; Courtney MacDonald, James MacDonald and friends; Meghan and Airk MacDonald; Fred Labbate; and Helen Jamieson of Collingwood and her sister, Christine of Toronto. Gary and Karen Pollock, Trevor and Kathy and Katelyn Pollock were also visiting over the weekend, as well as Lenny and Marsha Farrell, Dianne Gamble, and Glen and Sarah, Paisley and Nora Farrell.

Congratulations to Ripley-Huron Fall Fair ambassador Bethany Wilken who was first-runner-up at the Miss Mid West to Alyy Iles, the Mount Forest ambassador. The competition was held Saturday at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall and Bethany was one of 18 ambassadors in the competition. The Miss Princess competition had 10 young ambassadors competing for the Princess title. Bethany also participated in the Canada Day parade in Goderich July 1, with 90 entries in the parade. Bethany will be competing at the CNE, beginning Aug. 19.

Sunday, Bren and Harvey deLeeuw celebrated “Sandy's" and Sasha’s birthdays with their family.  It was the perfect day for a bit of fun, a backyard picnic and birthday cake too! “Sandy” and Sasha, the guests of honour, attended from their home in Toronto. Brian and Christine came from Mount Forest, Robyn and Brandon from Port Elgin, and Becca, Thomas, Everett and Arlo from the Southline! Lots of memories, some rather funny stories from the past, and a few awesome photos were shared making for a fabulous afternoon of laughter galore!

Glad to hear that George Knight of Picton is recovering from recent surgeries and is back home again!

Simon and Jan Logtenberg visited with Jim and Fran Farrell, Friday evening, and brought pictures of their recent trip to Whitehorse, Yukon, visiting with their daughter Jenn.

Sunday, the family of Jim and Fran Farrell gathered for a barbecue and swimming and to celebrate some birthdays! In attendance were Jamie and Crystal, Danica and Clara Farrell of Holstein, Glen and Sarah, Paisley and Nora Farrell, and Carmen and Jeff Knapp.

Congratulations to Dan Post and Deanne Poppe of Vancouver, who were married at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Saturday, July 8. The centre was decorated beautifully. Under a sunny sky and later, a full moon, the couple celebrated their marriage. Deanne is the granddaughter of Ken and Velma (Ferris) Hendry of Tiverton. Ken's mother, Laura Finlay, grew up on the 12th of Huron with her siblings and parents, John and Isabella (Pollock) Finlay and step-mother, Annie Dale. Life is a circle. Dan's parents are Bill and Linda Tarry of St. Thomas.
