Kincardine hospital foundation Radiothon raises more than $62,000

September 20, 2017

The third annual myFM Radiothon in support of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, netted more than $62,000, significantly more than the $50,000 raised last year.

Held Friday at Trillium Court Seniors' Community in Kincardine, the event began at 8 a.m., with a goal of $75,000. Volunteers manned the phones, taking pledges, while myFM Radio conducted a live radio broadcast featuring numerous special guests.

The Kincardine Lions Club provided a barbecue, and there was entertainment all day, as well as a silent auction, a raffle and a cheque-presentation corner for walk-in donations.

By 10:30 a.m., the total raised was $22,375, and by 1:30 p.m., that total had almost doubled to $42,075.

The Kincardine Celebration Singers performed in the afternoon, under the direction of Willa Schoffer.

By 4 p.m, the Radiothon total was an astounding $62,827. Pledges continue to pour in, and if you would like to donate, call foundation co-ordinator Diane Baldwin at 519-396-3331, Ext. 4342.

The money is going toward a new Digital X-ray machine, at a cost of $777,000, with renovations.

On average, 10,000 X-rays are performed at the Kincardine hospital every year. The current machine is more than 20 years old, surpassing its life expectancy, and the space requires extensive renovation to meet current standards and regulations.

New diagnostic technology will capture images with higher quality and accuracy, and allow for faster exam times and reduced radiation for patients.

Besides myFM, major sponsors of the Radiothon were Bruce Telecom, Trillium Court and the Kincardine Lions Club.
