The Ripley Wolves are ready for another season of excitement on the ice and in the community.

The Wolves kick off their season, with a special game in Kincardine, against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Saturday, Oct. 7, at 5:15 p.m., as part of Kincardine’s Hockey Day celebrations.

The Wolves first home game – almost all of which have moved to Saturday night at 7 p.m. this season to better suit our fans with young children – will be on Oct. 21 against Huron East. The full schedule is available at: www.ripleywolves.com/seasonschedule.

Other highlights include the Justin Hammond Memorial Game against Shallow Lake, Friday, Nov. 3, at 8:30 p.m. in Chesley; a rematch from last year’s entertaining first round against Petrolia, Saturday, Nov. 25, at home at 7 p.m.; trips to Lucknow, Dec. 9 and 23, at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively; and the holiday game against Saugeen Shores, Friday, Dec. 29, at 8:30 p.m.

The regular season wraps up with a home game against Ripley's cross-township rivals, Lucknow, Saturday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m.

The Wolves finished sixth overall last year and gave third-place Petrolia a hard-fought series in the first round.

One of the youngest teams in the league, the Wolves are welcoming back many of their exciting players, and have signed a few new skaters, which should make for another action-packed season.

The team is also getting more involved in the community this year, holding numerous fund-raisers throughout the season.

The second Friday of every month, beginning Oct. 13, will be Quiz Night at the Ripley Curling Club. For $20 per person, community members of all ages are invited to join their friends for a night of team trivia and fun. Teams can have up to eight players and the winners split the entry fees with the Wolves. Quiz Nights are age-of-majority, and bring your own refreshments. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and trivia begins at 8 p.m.

The Wolves are also making it easy for local businesses, families and groups of friends to have their holiday parties this year. The hockey club is holding a Christmas dinner and Yuk Yuks night, Friday, Nov. 24, upstairs at the Ripley Arena. The event, catered by Burke’s, will feature a full Christmas dinner, while three Yuk Yuks comedians will have the crowd in stitches during the 90-minute show. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.. Age-of-majority only.

Tickets are $75 each if you buy the full table of eight, or $85 each for individual tickets. Call or text Dwight Irwin at 519-525-7106 to reserve your spot. Only 150 tickets will be sold, so don’t miss out on this great event!

The Wolves’ players will also be going door-to-door for the local food bank during the holiday season, so watch www.ripleywolves.com and our Facebook and Twitter feeds for more information on that fund-raiser and for frequent updates about the 2017-18 season.

The executive committee is also looking for new members, so anyone who enjoys exciting hockey and a fun volunteer opportunity is invited to apply by contacting president Kevin Taylor at ktaylor@hurontel.on.ca or vice-president Dwight Irwin at dwightirwin16@hotmail.com.
