Kincardine Ladies Fitness Co-op celebrates second anniversary

October 8, 2017

Members of the Kincardine Ladies Fitness Co-op gathered for an afternoon of fun and good cheer, Sunday, Oct. 1, to celebrate the gym’s second anniversary.

Thanks to those who have embraced the idea and challenges of being part of a co-op, the gym continues to thrive and provide a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere for ladies who wish to maintain their fitness level along with other like-minded members of the community.

In honour of this occasion, a donation of $150 was presented to Bill MacTavish who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Kincardine Trails Association.

Past-president Ginny Ross paid a short tribute to Jane Van Sickle who died in July. Ross reminded the members that it was Van Sickle who volunteered her services to come up with a business model and plan for the fitness co-op, when a group of former Curves members wanted to try and form the gym.

Without Van Sickle's input, the idea may not have evolved, said Ross."Jane was looking forward to joining us at the gym as soon as her health allowed. Sadly, this was not to be. Her death was not only a shock but a tremendous loss for all those who knew her."

The gym is also marking its second anniversary with two Fall Challenges, running Oct. 1 to Dec. 2. For the first one, members are encouraged to work out a minimum of three times per week for a chance to win a month’s free membership.  For the second challenge, members are asked to invite a friend to try out the gym facilities. If the friend signs up for a minimum of three months, both the existing and the new member will get a month’s free membership.

At the end of a very pleasant social event, a draw was held for door prizes. Beckie Graham, the treasurer, donated four of her beautifully hand-painted and decorated bags. The lucky winners were Heather Finnie, Elaine Emmerton, Ginny Ross and Paulette Raspberry. In addition, Sue Sipila, Lori Weber, Beckie Graham and Anne Bromfield each won a fitness co-op T-shirt.

As the gym enters its third year, the members are committed to ensuring continued success!
