Fire causes about $20,000 damage to garage in Kincardine

October 15, 2017

Fire has caused about $20,000 damage to a garage on Wieck Boulevard in Kincardine.

Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to the structure fire, Friday at 6:25 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the garage. They were able to contain the fire to the garage with no damage to the home.

“Firefighters had to cut through the garage door to reach the fire," said deputy fire chief Mike Moore. "Once crews entered the garage, the fire was quickly brought under control. It caused damage to the garage but no damage to the remainder of the house.”

The occupants had working smoke alarms and were able to safely evacuate.

The fire is not suspicious and is being investigated by Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services.

“This emergency demonstrates once again the importance of working smoke alarms," said fire chief Kent Padfield. "Smoke alarms and a family emergency escape plan are imperative to protect your family when a fire starts.”

Test your smoke alarms and practice your escape plan.
