The Bruce County Federation of Agriculture annual meeting was held Friday evening at the Teeswater Community Centre. About 60 people enjoyed a roast beef and pork dinner with all the trimmings and lovely desserts prepared by Rob and Meg Colwell of Mildmay. 

Guest speaker was Kelly Daynard of Farm and Food Care, speaking of her experiences telling the stories  of farmers and agriculture, and sharing them internationally. A member of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists, she attends conferences around the world. 

She shared stories of farmers in Slovakia, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Argentina, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, East Germany, and South Africa. Many in attendance could identify with their native country and the farming experiences of their ancestors and relatives. 

During the elections, Dr. Ken Bridge of Kincardine Township was named president, John Rodgers of Bruce Peninsula is first vice-president, and Chris Cossitt of Walkerton is second vice-president. Members also elected delegates and Policy Advisory Council representatives for the Ontario Federation of Agriculture annual convention, Nov. 20 and 21, in Toronto.

COMMUNITY NEWS

The Ripley Curling Club Brunch was held Sunday with a good number of folks enjoying the delicious food and good visiting.

The Aitken family hosted its Christmas get-together Saturday in Ripley. Bruce Aitken visited in the area with family and friends on the weekend. Bruce, Sandy MacEwan, and Lenard and Marsha Farrell had supper with Jim and Fran Farrell and Glen, Sarah, Paisley and Nora Farrell Saturday evening.

The beautiful weather over the past couple of days has really helped the farmers get their crops off.

Jennifer and Steve Riley and family visited with Maureen and Roy Collins and they all visited with David and Irene Collins and family.

Heather and Sam Finnie returned from their trip to England and Paris where they visited with members of Sam's family.

Gerald Rhody celebrated his 91st birthday, Thursday.
