Breakers Swim Team competes at Orangeville Fall Invitational

The Breakers Swim Team, based in Port Elgin, competed at the Orangeville Otters Fall Invitational, Oct. 28-29, with some impressive results.

Being the first swim meet of the season, and with some new coaching staff and training structure, the parents, the swimmers and the coaches were excited to see the swimmers improve their times by a total of three-and-a-half minutes, collectively.

The 13 team members swam a minimum of three events each and some swam events for the first time, such as 200m Butterfly for Sydney Beauregard, 200m Backstroke and Breaststroke for Ryan Morley and Brady Philips, and 800m Freestyle for Zachary McEwen.

Some of the outstanding performances were:
  • Sydney Beauregard had a 27-second improvement on her 200m Backstroke
  • Hannah Kent dropped almost 37 seconds in her 200m Breaststroke and over a minute in her 400m Freestyle
  • Zachary McEwen cut eight seconds in 100m Breaststroke
  • Rebecca Schropp cut almost 24 seconds in 200m Breaststroke
  • Liam Fitzgerald had a personal best time in his 200m Individual Medley
  • Jayson Horseman had personal best times in his 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle
  • Cameron McEwen swam a personal best in the 100m Butterfly
  • Zachary McEwen swam personal best times in his 200m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 800m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, and 50m Freestyle
  • Brady Phillips had a personal best time in his 100m Freestyle
  • Hannah Kent had a personal best times in 100m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle in addition to her amazing swims in her 200m Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle
  • Madison Wheeler had personal best times in her 200m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, and her 50m Breaststroke
  • Rose Morley and Sharvani Shankar both had personal best times in all their swims

With these improvements, many swimmers placed in the top six and collectively brought home nine first-place, nine second-place, 13 third-place, eight fourth-place, five fifth-place and four sixth-place finishes.

The team will be attending the Wilmot Aces Invitational this weekend, Nov. 17-19, and some of the younger swimmers will be attending the Owen Sound Development meet Nov. 19.
The Breakers swim out of Centennial Pool in Port Elgin. The swimmers are from the surrounding communities, including Kincardine.
