Kincardine hospital auxiliary funds purchase of new mammography chair at hospital

November 16, 2017

Last November, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine hospital auxiliary presented the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation with a cheque for $30,000 for the purchase of much-needed medical equipment for the Kincardine hospital.

One of these purchases was a new mammography chair. This special chair is on rollers, can be raised or lowered and the arms can be removed, when required.

Lisa Storey, senior medical radiation technologist at the Kincardine hospital, says the "mammo chair" is an asset to the mammography screening program.

"Patients with mobility or postural issues will find comfort with the use of this chair," she says. "Sometimes, it can be difficult to position some people for a mammogram and they find it stressful, so the chair can help relieve that stress and make the test more comfortable."

The Kincardine hospital has recently been accredited with the Ontario Breast Screening Program which co-ordinates the mammograms with recalls, and reminder letters for the next appointments, as well as communicating the screening results and any necessary follow-up tests with the woman’s health care provider.

The Kincardine auxiliary is proud to be able to assist the program in this way.
