The Port Elgin Breakers Swim Team had a busy weekend Nov. 17-19.
Gold and senior Blue swimmers: Braeden Ashton, Sydney Beauregard, Evrim Dereli, Liam Fitzgerald, Jayson Horseman, Hannah Kent, Brady Phillips, Carlin Reid and Rebecca Schropp, competed at the Wilmot Aces Fall Invitational and the younger and newer additions to the team competed in the Owen Sound Development Meet Nov. 19.
The five new swimmers: Kenzie Bourassa, Bria McPherson, Amini Mukenge, Yuhai Mukenge and Mwema Mukenge, and three more experienced swimmers: Rose Morley, Sharvani Shankar and Abhinav Shankar, had strong performances at the Owen Sound meet.
Abhinav Shankar took off a total of 21 seconds in his four previously-swum events (50 BK, 50 FR, 50 BR and 100 IM), and placed second in all his events including 50 Fly! The Breakers also took home three fourth-place, two fifth-place, two seventh-place and eighth-place finishes.
At the Aces Fall Invitational, Braeden Ashton and Liam Fitzgerald made some impressive improvements on their 200 BK, taking off more than 27 seconds and 25 seconds, respectively, and making it to the finals. Rebecca Schropp had a 12-second improvement on her 400 IM and qualified for finals in most of her events. Evrim Dereli made a 19-second change in her 200 FR time, and Hannah Kent took off almost 17 seconds from her 200 IM.
Altogether, the Breakers took almost three minutes off their previous personal best times.
The team has a busy 2017-18 swim meet schedule and is headed to the Barrie Trojan Cup Dec. 1.
Come cheer us on at the Mini-Meet, at the Port Elgin Centennial Pool, Dec. 7.
