Kincardine Kinucks hosting 28th annual Regional Silver Stick hockey tournament

December 27, 2014

The excitement has already begun as more than 50 teams, in Novice, Peewee and Bantam hockey, have descended on the Kincardine area for the 28th annual Regional Silver Stick tournament.
The event began Saturday morning and runs through to Tuesday afternoon when the championship games will be held at the Davidson Centre, Kincardine, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Peewee game between Kincardine and Saugeen Shores Saturday afternoon was a real barn-burner, as the match was tied at 2-2 with only 10 minutes remaining in the third period. Kincardine scored to go ahead, 3-2, with six-and-a-half minutes left in the game, but Saugeen Shores tied it up two minutes later.
Then, with only 21.4 seconds remaining, Kincardine scored the winning goal, followed by an insurance marker with 1.9 seconds to go, to win the game, 5-3.
With that kind of action, arenas in Kincardine, Ripley and Tiverton should be full of spectators.

The opening ceremonies were slated to run Saturday night at 7:45, at the Davidson Centre.
