Archibald Roderick “Archie” MacKinnon of Vancouver, British Columbia, formerly of Kincardine Township, died June 23, 2022, at the age of 94. The son of Finnie and Susan MacKinnon, he grew up in Kincardine Township. He graduated from Queen’s University and the University of Edinburgh, and received a D. Litt from Nipissing University. His career path took him from the New Dundee (Ontario) Public School to North Bay Teacher’s College, to the Toronto Board of Education, to the Harvard Graduate School of Education (Boston), to Simon Fraser University (Burnaby), then the Canadian International Development Agency (Ottawa) and finally to the University of Guelph (Ontario). He was a member of the Working Group on UNESCO Objectives and Priorities, a founding member of the International Education Reporting Service (Geneva) and advisor to parliamentary committees on educational programs and policies of CIDA and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). He was also a member of the Group of 78. Predeceased by his wife, Gene; his three brothers, Jim, George and Alan; and his granddaughter, Carly (1992-1995). He is survived by his loving, but widely-scattered family, Rory (Marlene), Ian (Johanna), Colum (Sue), Hugh and Catherine Eddy; and his grandchildren, Jillian, Thomas, Jack, Dylan, Clayton, Archie, and Luke. While education was his passion, he thoroughly enjoyed camping, reading and cross-country skiing. He was intensely interested in his family and all of their activities, as well as assisting the people he met to reach their potential. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held July 21 in New Westminster.
