Huron OPP report suspended driver; speeder; and damaged cars

SUSPENDED DRIVER FOUND WITH METHAMPHETAMINE
 

(GODERICH, ON) – The Huron County OPP has charged a 23-year-old driver after he was spotted by an officer driving his un-plated All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in the Town of Goderich. 

At approximately 2:25 a.m. July 9, a Huron OPP officer stopped the ATV on Maitland Road South near Oxford Street.  Upon stopping the ATV, the officer checked the driver’s licence status of the driver and it was determined the licence was suspended. Further checks revealed the ATV was not insured. Furthermore, the operation of ATVs in the Town of Goderich is not allowed.
 

The driver was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest revealed the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine. As a result, Tyler DURST, 23, of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, Drive Off-Road Vehicle – No Insurance, Drive Off-Road Vehicle – No Number Plate, and Drive While Under Suspension. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Aug. 24.
   

SPEEDER LOSES DRIVING PRIVILEGES FOR A WEEK
 

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 62-year-old driver will have to make a court appearance later this summer after she was charged with Racing Monday afternoon, July 13. 

At 12:33 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck travelling northbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway at a high rate of speed. The officer used a RADAR device to measure the truck’s speed at 130 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver came to a stop near Brindley Beach Road.
 

Shirley HUGILL, 62, of Seaforth has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. Her licence has been suspended for seven days and her truck has been impounded for the next week. Her court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 1,  at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich.
 

THREE VEHICLES DAMAGED OVERNIGHT IN GODERICH
 

(GODERICH, ON) -  Huron County OPP officers are investigating three incidents of mischief to vehicles that occurred overnight in the Town of Goderich this past week. Police believe the vehicles were all damaged between 11 p.m. and midnight, July 9.
 

  • A Nissan Xterra, parked on Cobourg Street, had the rear window smashed out.

  • A Pontiac Montana mini- van, parked on Elgin Avenue West, had a rear sliding door window smashed out.

  • A Chevrolet Impala, parked on Picton Street West, had the driver’s side window smashed out.
