Kincardine to re-open Queen Street in time for Hometown Christmas

The Municipality of Kincardine is re-opening Queen Street in time for Hometown Christmas, Friday night (Nov. 17).
The $7-million-plus downtown reconstruction project began in March and is expected to be wrapped up in time for the festive downtown event, which runs from 5-9 p.m.
“Crews completed concrete work earlier this week and are finishing the asphalt in Phase 3 today (Nov. 16),” said Cherie Leslie, Kincardine community economic development co-ordinator. “We’re so excited to see this construction project coming to an end. To be able to celebrate alongside the Kincardine Business Improvement Area (BIA) at Hometown Christmas.”
The opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the entrance to Victoria Park. Blinky will be on-hand to make the grand prize draw from the shop-and-dine passport entries.
Hometown Christmas will run the length of Queen Street, from Durham Market Square South to just south of 960 Queen Street (Circle K), featuring a petting zoo, horse-drawn carriage rides, live music, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Downtown businesses are also staying open late, giving shoppers the opportunity to check things off their holiday lists.
Finishing touches for the downtown project in 2024, include the addition of aesthetic elements, such as benches, planters, and trees. A final topcoat of asphalt in the fall will complete the entire process.
