Kincardine testing public alerting system and sirens this week
Annually, the Municipality of Kincardine does public-alerting testing to ensure the devices it uses to notify the public are in working order. Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have an Alert FM device and/or you may hear the sirens.

Kincardine Alert (RAVE) is a software program available to everyone in the municipality to sign up for FREE so the municipality has multiple ways of reaching you before, during, and after, an emergency to make sure you are being helped and informed. To access this program, click here: www.getrave.ca/smart911/ref/login.action?pa=kincardine.

Wednesday, July 17, the municipality will be testing the Alert FM devices, as well as Kincardine Alert (RAVE), says community emergency management co-ordinator Shane Watson. Part of the messaging, during this test, will be to inform those users of the siren-testing set to take place Thursday, July 18, between 10 a.m. and Noon.

The municipality owns, operates and maintains nine public-alerting sirens within three kilometres of the Bruce Power nuclear generating station. The sirens are meant to alert the public of an incident at the site.

The public-alerting sirens are an important part of emergency preparedness. The test is to confirm the activation and the function of these sirens which are part of the notification system for those within three kilometres of the site.

The system is activated by the Municipality of Kincardine on behalf of Bruce Power and the Province of Ontario. The sirens will be tested July 18, between 10 a.m. and Noon.
