Huron United Football Club falls, 2-0, to Rohingya B
The Huron United Football Club was bested, by a score of 2-0, against Rohingya FC B, Aug. 13, in Listowel.

Huron United came out flat – the opening sequence featured nervy passing and heavy touches, which ceded some quick chances to Rohingya. Keeper Haydon Armstrong had to be sharp early in his return to the Huron United net.

Huron United was eventually able to settle into the match, and started to generate offence through purposive possession and by maximizing its width in attack. All-action defender Ryan Carty was a menace on the ball, and the always-abrasive Cam Fletcher kept Rohingya's midfielders under steady pressure.

The first half ended in a scoreless deadlock. Midfielder Zack Stoneman nearly gave Huron United an early lead in the second, but he pushed the ball just wide after his tireless effort earned him a chance in the box. Shortly after, Armstrong took a tactical foul to deny Rohingya a sure goal-scoring opportunity and then proceeded to calmly disposition the resulting free kick.

Rohingya scored in the 58th minute with a blast to the top right corner that just eluded Armstrong's dive. Huron United responded with a run of pressure, including a sublime ball from centre-back Murray Martin that skimmed two-thirds of the field to unlock a chance on the right flank.

Attackers Drew Cobean and Adam Carty authored late chances as Huron United chased the equalizer, but Rohingya was able to slot home an insurance marker in the final minutes and walked away with a 2-0 victory.

Man of the Match went to Stoneman for his industrious performance in midfield, with honourable mentions to Cobean, James Tigert, and Riley Cherrett.

Huron United is playing out of the Tri-City Men's Soccer League again this season, and the team’s next match was against Simba FC, Aug. 20, at Spinrite Field, Listowel. The team’s roster is composed of players from Kincardine, Port Elgin, and surrounding areas.  The club can be followed at www.kdslsoccer.com/teams/default.asp?u=KDSL&s=soccer&p=home.
