September 27, 2024
The new accessible playground was officially opened at Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine, Thursday afternoon.
Principal Kim Tolton and vice-principal Kasey Culbert took part in the ribbon-cutting, welcoming everyone to the culmination of a lot of hard work and fund-raising efforts.
“We are beyond thrilled to see this dream finally come to life,” they said. “This playground isn’t just about swings and slides; it’s about creating a space where every child — regardless of their abilities — can play, explore, and have fun together. This is a place where laughter will fill the air, friendships will blossom, and everyone is included.”
They thanked everyone who made this project possible, including the Home and School Association which donated more than $35,000 from various food days and fund-raisers, as well as local businesses and organizations, such as the Power Workers’ Union, Kincardine Rotary, HuronTel, Kincardine Lions Club, No Frills, NPX, and the Kincardine Legion.
“To all the families who participated in our fund-raisers and events — from sending $2 for weekly popcorn days, to joining our Mothers’ Day Market and buying raffle tickets for our raffle baskets - thank you! Every dollar you helped raised assisted in turning our vision of an accessible playground into a reality.”
They also thanked the amazing volunteers who joined the playground revitalization committee, planning and promoting this project; and the parents, grandparents, and guardians who believed in this vision.
“Now, to our kids — this playground is made for you! It’s designed so that everyone can join in on the fun, no matter what your ability. We can’t wait to see you climbing, sliding, swinging, and just being yourselves. This is your space to imagine, explore, and build friendships.”
