Bulldogs clip Flyers in shoot-out, edged by Patriots in PJHL action on the weekend

The Kincardine Bulldogs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League, clipped the Goderich Flyers, Friday night, but were edged out by the Mount Forest Patriots, Saturday night, all on home ice at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
Friday night was a repeat of the previous Saturday, as the Bulldogs handed the Flyers a 4-3 loss in another shoot-out.
The ‘Dogs opened the scoring midway in the first period, on a goal by Austin Dunlop from Wyatt Thomas and Blake Hellyer. Minutes later, Goderich tied it up.
Early in the second, Goderich made it a 2-1 game, before Caeleb Bowler tied it for the Bulldogs, assisted by Sawyer Olmstead and Trent Houghton. The Flyers grabbed a quick goal near the end of the period, to take a 3-2 lead into the final frame.
Minutes into the third, Dustin Heipel tied the game for the ‘Dogs, assisted by Bryce Martin and Wilson Shipp, forcing overtime.
Following a scoreless overtime period, the game moved into a shoot-out, with Olmstead getting the game-winner, and Heipel adding a second marker, giving the Bulldogs the 4-3 win.
Kincardine goalie Rowen Cherrett made 28 saves on 31 shots.
Saturday night, the Bulldogs lost a close game to Mount Forest, 3-2.
Prior to the start of the game, the ‘Dogs welcomed a special guest, Kincardine Legion president Jim McDonald, to the ice to do the ceremonial puck-drop in honour of Hockey Day in Kincardine.
McDonald is a veteran who served 30 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces. He has been a Legion member for more than 25 years and is in his fifth year as president of the Kincardine branch.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring minutes into the first period, on a powerplay goal by Cooper Love, from Martin and Chad Lawrence.
Mount Forest quickly tied it up before Martin scored from Heipel and Shipp to make it a 2-1 lead for the ‘Dogs.
The Patriots scored two unanswered goals late in the second, to take a 3-2 lead, and despite several scoring chances by the ‘Dogs, that’s the way the game ended.
Kincardine goalie Ryan Tanner made 35 saves on 38 shots.
The Bulldogs travel to Goderich, Saturday, Nov. 9, for an 8 p.m. game. The following weekend, they face the Walkerton Capitals twice: Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in Walkerton, and back at the Davidson Centre, Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m.
