Auxiliary donates almost $40,000 for equipment at the Kincardine Hospital
November 29, 2024
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary celebrated another amazing year of fund-raising, with a Christmas luncheon, Wednesday afternoon, at the Ripley-Huron Legion.
The auxiliary members were thrilled to present a donation of $38,500 to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, for new equipment at the Kincardine Hospital.
President Jeanne Lindsay welcomed about 60 people to the luncheon, including special guests Nancy Shaw, president and chief executive officer of the health centre; Dean Dunn, chairman of the hospital board; Carol Collins of the hospital foundation; Liz Dadson of the Kincardine Record; and Liz Small of the Kincardine Independent.
Lindsay thanked all the auxiliary members for their hard work and dedication toward raising money for the hospital. “We are successful in our endeavours because of all your great support.” She also expressed appreciation for the friendships she has made and guidance she has received, since taking on the job of president.
The group enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner, complete with tasty traditional Christmas pudding, prepared and served by the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Following the meal, Shaw thanked the auxiliary for its hard work. “Your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated. Happy Holidays.”
Collins brought greetings from foundation president Becky Fair, and said the foundation appreciates not only the funds raised by the auxiliary, but also the awareness raised as auxiliary members are out and about in the community spreading the word.
In 1995, the hospital auxiliary presented its first donation to the newly-formed hospital foundation. Since then, the auxiliary has donated a total of $855,205. This year’s money is going toward purchasing patient beds, a urine analyzer and IV pumps.
During the regular meeting, various reports were presented.
Brigitte Rauket and Tracy Robinson said the hospital gift shop did very well this year, and noted that the hospital board has allowed free parking for customers who purchase $25 or more at the gift shop.
The Holiday Sale brought in a record amount, including more than $8,100 at the boutique, $1,500 at the bake sale, almost $1,000 at the tea room, and $1,150 through the Spirits Basket raffle, for a total of almost $12,000.
It was noted that the auxiliary has generated 3,387 volunteer hours, so far in 2024, and has welcomed 10 new members this year.
The final item on the agenda was the ceremonial installation of the 2025 executive, performed by Sheila Elliott and Donna Mowry.
There is no change in the executive which includes president Jeanne Lindsay, first vice-president Tracy Capeling, second vice-president Lesley MacGregor, secretary Angela Thompkins, treasurer Wilma Manary and press reporter Liz Nurton.
The auxiliary appreciates all the wonderful support from its members, volunteers, the media, and especially the community, as the group strives to assist the Kincardine Hospital in providing the best care possible, close to home.
