Off the Broom: Annual ladies bonspiel features “Movie Night” theme
In February, we hosted our annual mixed bonspiel. Winner of the early draw, was the Ripley team of Derek, Brian, Ollie and Jenny Regier, while the late draw winners were Scott and Tekla Kennedy with Alex and Lesley MacGregor of Kincardine. It was good to see former Kincardine junior curler, Craig Urie, and his Georgetown group back again this year. As always, a good time was had by all.
The Grey Bruce Minor League for junior curlers finished the season with two Kincardine teams taking top honours. Madeline Hunter’s team won the “A” Division, while Natalie Court team won the “B.” There were 18 teams participating in this inaugural year of the league and to finish in top spot was quite an accomplishment. Way to go, Juniors! Next on the agenda for our younger juniors is the U12 Provincials in Palmerston, April 3-6. Good luck to all!
In the Grey Bruce Major League, Joey Rettinger and his Tara team were the champions this year. Kincardine had one team participating in this league, skipped by Les Shane.
The annual ladies bonspiel ran into a nasty day of weather, resulting in several teams unable to get here. A headache for the convener but Pat Pringle managed to figure it out with several teams curling with three players and a few male helpers joining in as well. The theme of the spiel was “Movie Night,” complete with popcorn. The Pringle team was dressed as “The Incredibles” and indeed the team members were as they won the late draw. Congratulations to Marie Pringle, her daughters, Katie and Shannon, and Jamie Beemer. The early draw winner, was the team of Barb Kester, Jen Lawrie and Barb Ross. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this another great day.

Our final bonspiel of the year is an in-club spiel to be held March 29. There is a sign-up sheet at the club if you are interested in participating.
How far would you go to play a team from your home club? Inverness, Scotland, apparently. The team of Shelley and Doug Dechene with Jenny Showalter and Karen Burlew (Galt) ended up playing Alex and Lesley MacGregor and Dave and Leslie McGregor (Bobcaygeon) at the 58th Highland Week of International Curling event. The MacGregors came out on top of that game.
Don’t forget to sign up for our annual golf tournament at Ainsdale to be held Sunday, June 8. Curling will be wrapping up shortly, the snow will melt and for some, it will be time to get out the clubs and hit the links. Sign up as a single, couple or team at the club.
