Blizzard descends on Kincardine area Friday night, prompting road closures
A blizzard hit the Kincardine area Friday night, causing road closures and program cancellations.

The South Bruce OPP reported that effective Friday, Feb. 6, at 5:34 p.m., Highway 21 was closed, from Amberley to Port Elgin; Highway 9 was closed, from Kincardine to Bruce County Road 1; and Bruce County Road 3 was closed, from Paisley to Port Elgin, due to poor road conditions and low-to-no visibility.

Two hours later, Bruce County Road 1, from Bruce County Road 20 to Paisley, was also closed, along with the Bruce-Saugeen Townline, from Paisley to Highway 21.

By 8:30 p.m., Bruce County Road 23 (B-line), from Lorne Beach to Bruce County Road 20, was also closed; and Highway 9 was closed, from Kincardine to Walkerton, due to poor driving conditions, nil visibility, and vehicles stuck on the roadways.

Saturday morning, Feb. 7, at 5:15 a.m., the South Bruce OPP had closed Bruce County Road 7, from Ripley to Highway 9, and the following roads remained closed: Highway 21, from Amberley to Port Elgin; and Highway 9, from Kincardine to Walkerton, along with several county roads.

By 10:15 a.m., Saturday, Highway 9 had been re-opened, and by 12:15 p.m., all the county roads had been re-opened, leaving Highway 21, from Amberley to Port Elgin, the only road still closed.

As of 10:09 p.m., Feb. 7, Highway 21, from Tiverton to Port Elgin, had been re-opened, while the section of Highway 21, from Tiverton to Amberley, remained closed.

For those who decide to travel, keep your headlights and tail-lights on and clear of snow and do not drive on a closed road.

Remember to keep your speed down. “If you see snow, go slow.”

In other news, Victoria St in Inverhuron became a raceway. For being a 30km/hr road, there could have been multiple vehicle inpoundments for excessive speeding. Someone is going to be struck, either clearing the mouth of their driveway or simply walking. Oddly enough, the majority of vehicles had Bruce Power parking passes on full display.
