Dearly loved grandfather of Kathleen, Emily (Joel), Lauren, Kaitlyn, Connor (Hannah) and Ashley. Survived by his sister, Evelyn (Danny) Oppermann; brother, George Anderson; sister-in-law, Sadie Anderson; brother-in-law, Bruce Coles (late Beryl); sister-in-law, Carolyn Coles (late Rick); and brother-in-law, Jim Coles (late Mary); as well as numerous other family members and friends. Jim emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland, at the age of 19 with a dream to own a farm. In 1967, he married Ruth, and purchased 100 acres near Sunderland where they raised a family and farmed for many years, during which time he served on the board of the Durham West Pork Producers. After retiring from farming in the early ‘90s, Jim enjoyed a successful second career in auto sales for over 20 years. He and Ruth travelled extensively, and treasured time spent with their children and grandchildren. Jim had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and love of reading which contributed to his impressive success as an entrepreneur and investor. He was a great storyteller and was always keen for any discussion involving history and politics. In 2021, Jim and Ruth relocated to Kincardine where they settled into the pleasures of lakeside living. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine. As per Jim’s wishes, a private family service will take place, with burial at Kincardine Cemetery. The family expresses gratitude to the team of health-care professionals at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, and Rural Home Care, Ripley, for their excellent and compassionate care. Memorial donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Wick Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
