Betty Adelaide Fry (Bowen) of Kincardine died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the Kincardine Hospital, Jan. 9, 2024. She was 95. Born Nov. 8, 1928, in Euphrasia Township, Grey County, she was the daughter of Sarah Adelaide Marshall and Arthur Vernon Bowen. Predeceased by her brother, Bill Bowen of Thornbury; and sister, Marie Bowen of Markdale. Betty was the beloved wife of Douglas Edmund Fry who predeceased her in 1981. They were married May 7, 1949, in Owen Sound and then moved to Kincardine where they raised their four children, Dennis (Liz), Brian (Bev), Karen (Julaine) and Wayne (deceased). She was blessed with nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by special friends, Ted & Diane Petter, who always made sure Betty had her “veggies.” Betty was actively engaged as a volunteer driver for Kincardine Community Services and enjoyed calling Bingo and working at meat draws at the Kincardine Legion. She was known for her dart-throwing accuracy, winning perfect games. She also called Bingo for the residents at Trillium Court Seniors’ Community in Kincardine, which eventually became her final home. Affectionately known as “Betty Buttons,” she had many people come to her for alterations and her skills as a seamstress. And she could always be seen at the old Kincardine Arena, cheering on her kids’ hockey in the winter, and then, in the summer at the ball park. Betty loved to travel, visiting Florida, Vegas, and the East Coast, with many trips in between with friends. She enjoyed watching the Blue Jays, making up game sheets to keep track of all the plays. Thanks to all the staff at RVilla Retirement in Ripley and Trillium Court for all your care throughout Betty’s stay. And big thanks to Dr. Jason Murray and Dr. Gary Gurbin. The Fry family also thanks the staff at the Kincardine Hospital, specifically nurses Maddie and Amy, as well as Dr. Catherine Ciszkowski and Dr. Leanne Thomson, for their loving care and compassion during Betty’s short illness. Betty is now at peace and together again with Doug after 42 years apart, and the family finds great comfort in that thought. A private family Service will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, with Rev. Gordon Dunbar officiating. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Portrait and memorial on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com. |
