David Sidney Thorn died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, at the age of 87. Loving husband of the late Donna Jean (née Hoff) Thorn (2005). Dear father of Mitchell of Kincardine, Eric (Sandy) of Edmonton, Alberta, Julia Pedersson of Surrey B.C., and Clayton (Rocky) of Edmonton, Alberta. Very proud grandfather of five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by his brothers, Jim (Sevina) of Toronto and Harry (Karen) of Tamassee, South Carolina, and their families. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Kay (née Manley) Thorn; and son-in-law, Bill Pedersson. David was the type of father who taught his children to be independent and self sufficient, and he was pleased that they were exactly that. When David, “the Grizz,” retired from his job as a fuel handling operator at Bruce Power, a job he loved, he chose to live a simple life. He enjoyed nothing more than reading the Toronto Star and playing a game of golf with his close friends. Even though he had become a bit of a home-body in later years, along the way, he touched the lives of others, and he will be fondly remembered by family and friends. David’s family extends a special thanks to the Roche family of Toronto: Aunt Claire Roche (Donna’s sister, now deceased), Pat and Cathy Roche, Darrin and Susan Roche, Debra and (ex Ron) Roche, Heather and Paul Huckvale, Jody Roche, and of course, all their families. Thank you for all the times you came up and visited with Dad and had a few pints. He loved your company and friendship and loved all of you. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to Fighting Blindness Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Portrait and memorial online at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com. |
