William James “Bill” Stewart of Kincardine, died peacefully, Feb. 18, 2024, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, with his wife, Nancy “Nanner,” son, Tad, and special nephew, Dan, by his side. He was 73. Born April 25, 1950, he was the son of Eldon and Mary Stewart of Kincardine. He worked at Bruce Power until he retired in 2002. Many of his friends, including George and Trevor, will have spent a moment or two in the Wee Factory solving the issues of the day. Bill was often found down at the boardwalk, replacing, building, or repairing the cement picnic tables or just about anything he deemed needed to be done. From there, you would find him performing required maintenance at Ainsdale or Somerhill golf courses. When he was not working, he could be found playing a round of golf with his crew, “The Fossils”: Harold, Rod, Harry, and Jim. Over the years, Bill enjoyed wintering in Florida and taking trips near and far, with his soul mate, Nanner. Family was important to Bill; he made sure they had what they needed, always making time to help his boys, grandchildren, his family and friends. Later in years, he and his friend, Vern, spent time checking out the market and Kincardine as they cruised around town on their scooters. Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy; his son, Tad (Sophia) Stewart of Sarnia, and daughter-in-law, Jacay of Hay Lakes, Alberta. Proud Poppa of Taylor, Landon, Caiti, Kallista, and Lachlan; and great-grand Poppa of Haidon and Bennett. Cherished brother of Sam (Vicki), Paul, John (Carol) and Darlene (Don) Murray. Fondly remembered by his in-laws, Jake and Betty Hunter, Brad and Faye Kirkconnell, Dennis and Connie Kirkconnell, Ken Collins and Kim Mann; and many nephews, nieces, family friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his parents, Eldon and Mary (nee Surridge) Stewart, and Rylla Stewart (nee Farrell); his son, William Baren “Floop” Stewart; sisters, Tricia, Sharon and Connie Jean; nephews, Kent and Kert; and his best of pals, Harold Maurer and Bill Johnson. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gary Gurbin, Kelsey, Elyse, Dr. Sandhu and support staff Marianne, Kincardine Hospital doctors and nurses, CCAC Beth Beddington, Palliative nurse Glenna Bartlett “Joy,” VON’s Katrina and Vicki, PSWs Jen, Wendy, Joanne and Gayle, for their kindness and compassionate care. We are forever grateful. We thank Bill’s family and friends for all the visits and treats over the past several months; it meant the world to us and to Bill. Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine, June 15, 2024, from 1-5 p.m., with the sharing of memories at 2 p.m. Memorial donations to Huron Shores Hospice, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, or the Kincardine Food Bank, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. “Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out!” Portrait and memorial on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com. |
