LOIS MARGUERITE TAYLOR (nee CROWSTON)

March 12, 2024

Lois Marguerite Taylor, formerly of Lucknow, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Derbecker’s Heritage House, St. Jacobs, in her 90th year. Born May 2, 1934, in Kinloss Township, she was the daughter of the late Clara (MacGillivray) and John Crowston. Beloved wife of the late John Clayton Alton and George Taylor. Greatly missed by her daughters Anne (Kevin) Snyder of Breslau and Lynn (Phares) Horst of St. Jacobs; grandchildren, Addison, Michaella, Bronwyn, Lauren, Nathan and Seth; and great-grandson Ethan. Also survived by her sister, Myrtle Irwin of Lucknow; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers, Marlow Crowston, Bud Crowston and Clarence Crowston; and sister, Cecilia Laidlaw. Lois had many happy memories of growing up on the family farm in Langside. She loved Lucknow and area and had many fond memories of family and friends here. As a teen, she volunteered as a candy striper at the Wingham Hospital. Her first job was at the Bank of Montreal in Lucknow where she worked as a teller. She met and married Clayton Alton and they ran a small dairy farm in Ashfield Township until they sold it and moved down the road to the river property beside Brookside Public School. Together, they built the house of their dreams and the family shared many wonderful years there. Through the years, Lois worked at Umbach’s Pharmacy, returned to the Bank of Montreal, Saan’s clothing store in Goderich, and Knechtel’s Food Market in Lucknow. Lois loved spending time with her grandchildren and being part of their lives. She often shared many stories of her childhood with them. She travelled to Ireland and England and met her long-time pen pal, Joan, while on holiday there. Her other travels included trips across Canada, Florida and many short trips around Ontario. In later years, she married George Taylor and they visited Arizona and the Grand Canyon. They shared many other adventures until their health kept them close to home. The funeral will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 1 p.m., with visitation two hours prior; Rev. Peggy Kinsman officiating. Interment, Dungannon Cemetery. Donations to the Lucknow United Church would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Condolences on-line at www.mackenzieandmccreath.com.
