Elizabeth “Betty” Ann McLeod (née Horton) of Point Clark, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in her 78th year. Beloved wife of Bill McLeod for more than 50 years. Loving mother of Catherine McLeod and Emily Skelly (David). Gramma of Aoife, Isla and Ronan Skelly; and grand-puppy, Ripley. Predeceased by her parents, Charlotte and Philip Horton; brothers, Robert (Ida) and Edward (Bonnie); and her mother- and father-in-law, Henrietta and George McLeod. Betty was a life-long teacher who taught for the Bruce County Board of Education at W.E. Thompson Public School in Kincardine until it closed, and then at Elgin Market Public School as a teacher-librarian until she retired. As a supporter of various competitive pipe bands, she travelled across Ontario and Scotland. She loved to golf, sing in the choir and in the car, going on adventures with her grandkids, and watching her shows with Bill, and Ripley, snuggled in her chair. Betty was kind and giving, her quiet and thoughtful acts of kindness touched the lives of many. She also had quite a mischievous sense of humour. She will be fondly remembered by family, friends and all who knew her. Betty’s family thanks the staff at the Kincardine Hospital for the kindness and care given to Betty and her family during her final days. Private family service at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, with Ann Maycock as funeral celebrant. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at the Kincardine Pavilion, 156 Durham Street, Kincardine, Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation or the Chesley Hospital Foundation – Restorative Rehabilitation Program, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
