Lorne Wesley Cook of Lucknow died peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief illness, April 3, 2024, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Marion (nee Hamilton) who predeceased him in 2015. Dear father of Sharon and Ron Johnson of Exeter, Michele and Jim LeGrand of Tiverton, Gerald and Lori Cook of Exeter, and Janice and David Eadie of Belmore. Missed by his six grandchildren, Wesley and Amanda, Lisa and Reid, Alexander, William, Preston, and Kara and Matt. Proud great-grandpa of Emery, Hartley, Alexandria, Kade, Brynlee, Nixon, Eden, Ryan and Luke. Survived by his sister, Elaine (Peter) Steer of Lucknow; and sister-in-law, Betty Cook of Kincardine. Predeceased by his brother, Ivan Cook. Lorne lived a busy and diverse life. He was born June 1, 1936, in Ashfield Township, the son of Evelyn (Reid) and Peter Cook. He met and eventually married Marion who was raised not far from him in Ashfield Township. Together, they farmed and raised their four children in the township. Lorne was a passionate farmer and enjoyed his work with animals and on the land. He also worked for many years for Helm Welding. He was a councillor for Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township, and further served his community as a long-time member of the Lucknow Lions Club. When they retired, Lorne and Marion moved into Lucknow. They enjoyed being part of the community and attending the Lucknow United Church. As an involved member of the Lucknow community, Lorne is remembered by his friends and family for his warm smile and wry laugh. He loved touring around the countryside to watch his grandchildren play baseball, soccer, hockey and curling, as well as dance. Many have fond memories of him strumming his guitar or tickling the ivories on the piano; his love of music was infectious and brightened up any gathering. When Marion died, and Lorne required more help, he moved to Tiverton Park Manor. While there, he received wonderful, compassionate care, for which his family is grateful. The family also expresses gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Kincardine Hospital for their kind professionalism during Lorne's last days. Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow. |
