ROBERT JOHN McCOURT

Robert John McCourt of Tiverton, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in his 71st year. Beloved husband of Bonnie (née Elliott) McCourt for 48 years. Loving father of Christina McCourt and Jason Hawkins of Toronto, Megan and Jason Rubridge of Windsor, John McCourt at home, and David and Stacey (née LaPlante) McCourt of Mississauga. Cherished granddad of Gordon and Viola McCourt and Amelia and Connor McCourt. Fondly remembered by his sister, Marlene McCourt of Etobicoke; and in-laws, Brian and Brenda Gartley of Harriston, Beverley Elliott and Chris Nowland of Vancouver, B.C., Jim Elliott and Terina Wnuk of Port Elgin; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Margery (née Hanna) McCourt; brother, Jim McCourt; sister, Reta McCourt; and in-laws, Bill and Betty Elliott. Robert was born in Atwood and attended Fanshawe College in London, studying Control Systems Technology. He worked at various plants, Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Hiram Walker in Windsor, finishing his electrical career at Bruce Power in Tiverton. He was well-respected by his peers and served as union steward at each plant where he was employed. He enjoyed his membership in the Sarnia, Port Elgin and Kincardine Yacht Clubs. He was an avid promoter of Special Olympics and coached both Bocce and Five-pin Bowling in Port Elgin and continued to coach Bocce in Kincardine after moving to Tiverton. Robert treasured time with his family, making numerous trips to Disney, camping, card-playing, and spending time in the wilderness. The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation, Monday, April 15, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, where the funeral will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m., with Rev. Theresa McDonald-Lee officiating. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine, immediately following the service. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Kincardine Special Olympics or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
