Ronald “Ron” Smith of Kincardine, died peacefully, with family by his side, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Thursday, May 9, 2024. He was 80. Beloved husband of Marian (née Sugden) for 54 years. Loving father of Venetta (predeceased, Dec. 25, 2023) and her husband, Don; and Laurel and her husband, Jewel. Proud grandpa of Jenna, Blake, Ashwin, Neela and Janvi. Ron enjoyed fixing anything for anyone, and learning new things. He was skilled in woodcarving, stained glass, and gardening. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, sailing, canoeing, cross-country skiing and walking. Ron was a chemical engineer and enjoyed his work at Bruce Nuclear in all his various roles. He was a member of the Kincardine United Church and headed the property committee for many years where he exercised his skills and knack for restoring things. He was also involved in the horticultural society and assisted in maintaining the trails around Kincardine. Ron cherished time with his grandchildren, being outside, reading books with them, travelling, and teaching them new things. He was kind, had a genuine interest in others and was always willing to help. He will fondly be remembered by his family, friends and all who knew him. Ron’s family thanks the staff at Trillium Court and the Kincardine Hospital for the kindness and care given to Ron and his family. Visitation will be held at the Kincardine United Church (721 Princes Street, Kincardine) Monday, June 3, 2024, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gord Dunbar officiating. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery.
