Eugene Michael “Gene” Zarubick of Kincardine died suddenly, Saturday, May 18, 2024, with his loving family at his side, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Mildred “Millie” (nee Kennedy) of 55 years. Loving father of his daughters, Deborah Zarubick and Arlene Coleman (Corey). Proud Gigi of Gabriel Coleman, Evander Coleman, Shepard Coleman and Xavier Zarubick. Survived by his brother, James Zarubick (Judy); brother-in-law, David Kennedy (Shelley); and sister-in-law, Margaret Binch (Murray). Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Olga Zarubick; and brother-in-law, Charles Kennedy. Gene was born in Sudbury, and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University, Kingston. Upon graduating, he immediately purchased his loved car, a ‘68 rust-coloured Road Runner. He had always held a great interest in planes and automobiles of all types. He accepted his first job in training at the nuclear plant in Deep River and continued his career in Kincardine at the Bruce Nuclear Plant as a shift supervisor. Gene loved travelling to the Caribbean with his family and enjoyed many great days in the warmth of the sun. He enjoyed music and had a vast collection of albums. Leonard Cohen, Chris Stapleton, Diana Krall, Adele, the Beatles, Eric Clapton and James Taylor were the songs of Gene’s life. He cultivated his daughters’ love of music and travel, starting at an early age. Spending time at a cottage, cooking on the barbecue, eating oysters and seafood with family and neighbours, and collecting Far Side T-shirts, were a few of the things that Gene enjoyed. His amazing love for animals attracted many neighbourhood pets; they knew where to come for treats and petting. The bottom of the 5th was one of his favourite spots swimming and relaxing at his perfect beach. When Gene was not hunting or fishing, he loved to spend time in his gazebo no matter what the weather, rain or shine. He even installed a heater, to extend the time he enjoyed outdoors in his backyard. He loved the quietness and simple beauty of nature, but time was best spent with those he loved at his side. Gene was a well-respected, kind and generous man. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Kincardine Pavilion, Kincardine, from 2-7 p.m., with words of remembrance at 3:30 p.m. Memorial donations to Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Scott Mission or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by Gene’s family as expressions of sympathy.
