GEORGE JONES

May 25, 2024

George Jones of Kincardine, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Kincardine Hospital, Saturday, May 25, 2024, in his 84th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Isabel Jones (nee Millar) for 55 years. Devoted father of Tracey (Andrew) and Gordon (Lianne). Much loved Papa of his grandchildren, Cameron, Evelyn, Brendan, and Cara. Fondly remembered by many neighbours, friends and former co-workers. Predeceased by his parents, George and Mary (nee Bell) Jones. George was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He apprenticed as a steelworks fitter and spent more than five years travelling the world as a third engineer on BP tankers. In 1965, he immigrated to Canada, his chosen country, to start a new life. Here, he met Isabel and they were married in 1968. After working in Hamilton and London, Kincardine became home in 1971 and George started at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development. After 30 years of service, he retired in 2001. George was a member of the Northern Light Masonic Lodge and a very proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 40 years. With his wife, Isabel, they logged many kilometres, travelling throughout Ontario, Quebec and the United States, making many friends along the way. In 2021, he was appointed as a Grand Officer, a position he held with honour. Never one to walk by a dog without offering ear scritches and pets, he always had a pocket full of dog treats available, even after losing his buddy, Garu, the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Family always came first for George. He adored spending time with each of his grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives since they were born. Together, George and Isabel created a loving family environment for their children. We will carry on in your footsteps, keeping family first in our hearts. We will miss you, Dad. The family offers a very special thank you for the extraordinary care and compassion George received at the Kincardine Hospital. To the nursing, diagnostic imaging, housekeeping and dietary, and laboratory staff, your professionalism and practice are second to none. We cannot express how much we, as a family, depended on Dr. Lisa Scott and Dr. Jason Murray for all of their knowledge and care. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Friday, May 31, 2024, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., with Eastern Star Service at 1:30 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Kathy Fraser officiating. Reception to follow in the Davey-Linklater Lounge. Memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
