Preston McLean Hammond of Kincardine, died Oct. 3, 2024, in Guelph, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born July 7, 1948, in Kitchener-Waterloo, he was the beloved son of Anita (née Bauer) and Grant Hammond, who predeceased him. Survived by his sons, Michael (Laura) of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, and Benjamin (Victoria) of Acton, Ontario; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Sam, Will, and Jackson Hammond. Devoted brother of Patricia Heimpel (Brian) and Linda Roeder (Gerry); and loving uncle of nieces, Wendy and Ashley; and nephews, Jeff, Kevin, and Tim. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Hammond. A proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Preston served with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and was a peacekeeper in Cyprus. Following this, he joined the Canadian Airborne Regiment out of Edmonton, Alberta. He later trained as a technologist and worked at the Trenton Air Force Base for several years. After the birth of his children, Preston relocated to Kincardine, where he lived until his death. Preston will be remembered for his unwavering strength, dedication to family, and commitment to service. His legacy of love and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
