RICHARD EVERETT TAYLOR

October 13, 2024

Richard Everett Taylor of Kincardine, died peacefully, Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 68. Born Jan. 27, 1956, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Rick is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 44 years, Cheryl (nee Rousseau); daughters, Renee (Greg) and Amanda (Darryl); and granddaughter, Brynn (the absolute light of his life). Also survived by his sister, Lane McLelan; sister-in-law, Denise Mayer (Mark); brother-in-law, George Rousseau (Darya); and beloved nephews, cousins, and family. Predeceased by his parents, Del and Lois Taylor (nee Brown); his brother, Clarence; father-in-law, G. Norman Rousseau; mother-in-law, June Rousseau; and brothers-in-law, S. Norman Rousseau and Hugh McLelan. Rick grew up in Quesnel, British Columbia, in a loving family, which provided the foundation for many of the qualities for which he is most known. He loved camping, fishing, skiing and hockey. He was an accomplished athlete and enjoyed participating in many team sports, notably his time with the Quesnel Millionaires junior hockey team. His vivacious personality and zest for life attracted a large group of lifelong friends. Rick and his famous white cowboy hat could be found in vans, camping, travelling, and parked in ski hills throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Married in 1980, Rick and Cheryl established themselves in Quesnel and welcomed their first daughter, Renee, in 1981, and second daughter, Amanda, in 1988. In 1989, the family relocated to Ontario and settled in Ingersoll. Rick began his career at CAMI Automotive where he was a valued member of the team and friend and mentor to many. His life in Ingersoll centred around the girls’ busy life in athletics and clubs. Devoted father to his two girls, always putting them first, he served as president of the Woodstock Gym Club amid weekends on the road at gymnastics competitions. Then followed time on, and behind, the bench for T-ball, softball, figure skating and hockey, always the loudest fan and biggest cheerleader. In his free time, Rick was at the curling club with many friends across a variety of leagues. Rick loved to travel, and family vacations were an annual tradition both near and far afield … family memories began in Hawaii and continued all over Canada and the Caribbean. Nova Scotia was a very special place for everyone. It was there he fell in love with sailing. Life started anew for Rick and Cheryl as Kincardine became their home and they built their dream lake house. Years of dedication and hard work culminated in a much-deserved retirement in 2017. Rick loved life on, and at, the lake, as Skipper onboard his beloved sailboat or racing and sailing with friends at the Kincardine Marina. Friends and neighbours here made a profound impact on Rick and Cheryl’s life. They loved to travel. Their favourite destination was San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, where there were “no bad days.” The time they spent with family and friends, especially those of the “three amigos,” are cherished memories. Rick’s big smile and selfless spirit will never be forgotten. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all those who were honoured to have had the privilege of knowing him. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are made in Rick’s honour and memory to Myeloma Canada. A Celebration to honour Rick’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 219 Lambton Street, Kincardine, Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, from 1-4 p.m., with words of remembrance at 2 p.m. For Rick’s large and extended family in Quesnel, British Columbia, a time of remembrance and celebration will take place in Quesnel at a later date.
