Kathryn McFadyen Gilchrist of Sudbury, formerly of Bruce Township, died peacefully, Oct. 4, 2024, at Extendicare York, Sudbury, at the age of 87. Born Sept. 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mary Gilchrist, and was raised on the family farm on the 2nd of Bruce. Kathryn will be dearly missed by loving family and friends, both near and far. Upon graduating from Kincardine High School, she attended Stratford Teachers’ College. Her first position was in a one-room schoolhouse in Listowel, teaching Grades 1-8. She went on to teach in Iroquois Falls and later settled in Sudbury where she taught at several elementary schools. She particularly loved her years at the Children's Treatment Centre. The privilege to teach others was always dear to her heart and many a student will fondly recall what a gifted teacher she was. Kathryn enjoyed a full retirement, and travelled, biked, hiked, paddled, and skied throughout the world. She spent summers at her haven, her cottage on beloved Fagan Lake. There she enjoyed the peaceful serenity of being in nature which she generously shared with family and friends. A celebration of life will be held in Sudbury, Oct. 20, 2024. A graveside service will be held at Purdy Cemetery, Oct. 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton.
