Karen Marie Passmore (née Shadgett) of Kincardine, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of family, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, at the age of 75. Beloved wife of Wayne Passmore for 54 years. Loving mother of Lori Passmore (Mathew Garnett) of Cambridge, United Kingdom (U.K.); Amy Andruski (Joe Andruski) of Kincardine; and Jason Passmore of Toronto. Missed by her grandchildren, Kyla, Sylvie, Joy and Ford. Fondly remembered by her siblings, Linda Berry and Greg Shadgett, both of Peterborough; and in-laws, Mike Barassin and Bonnie and Gord MacKay. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Marie (née Orr) Shadgett; mother-in-law, Dora Passmore; and sister-in-law, Marlene Barassin. Karen grew up in Peterborough. It was there that she met the love of her life – Wayne – with whom she would spend the rest of her life. In the early days, they loved going to the drag races, they had many friends and in high school, Karen was crowned queen of the prom. After short stints in Oshawa and Deep River, Karen and Wayne moved to Kincardine in 1973. She had trained as a lab technologist and worked at the local hospital for her entire career. She was deeply embedded in the community and was always busy. She was involved in the union (including acting as president), she was one of the organizers of the hospital teen volunteers (‘Candy Stripers’) and she was an active member of the hospital auxiliary. Karen loved to travel and had many fantastic trips, including to Florida, Spain, Germany, Austria and the U.K. For many consecutive winters, Karen and Wayne travelled to Mexico where she loved snorkelling, enjoyed beach life and sampled local food. They made many life-long friends from around the world on these holidays. She also loved road trips – a drive from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier on Route 66 was particularly memorable. Karen was well-known for her baking, knitting and quilting. She loved beautiful scenery, in particular the gorgeous sunsets over Lake Huron. She always had a smile on her face. She had so much love for everyone around her, especially her children, grandchildren and her dog, Luna. She will be remembered as someone who seemed to be happy all the time, but who selflessly made sure everyone around her was happy too. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at the Kincardine Cemetery, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert McFadden officiating. Memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. |
