Howard Ribey, former reeve of Bruce Township and former Ward 3 councillor for the Municipality of Kincardine, died peacefully at Saugeen Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, June 24, 2015. He was 75. Beloved husband of Audrey. Loving dad of Bruce and his wife, Heather; Dean and his wife, Candy; and Ronda Ernewein and her husband, Sean. Proud grandfather of Bryce, Kent, Taylor, Corey, Blain, and Parker Ribey, and Ashley and Hailey Ernewein. Survived by his sister, Noreen, and her husband, Harry Kibler; and his sister-in-law. Sharon Ribey. Predeceased by his parents, Wilmer and Jean (McKenzie) Ribey; his sister, Marion, and her husband, Alvin Schlorff; and his brother, Don Ribey. He served on Bruce Township council for many years as a councillor and as reeve, and was on the board of the Bruce Municipal Telephone System (now Bruce Telecom). He was Ward 3 councillor when Bruce Township was amalgamated into the new Municipality of Kincardine in 1999, and continued to serve until he retired from politics. Visitation was held at the Port Elgin Chapel of the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, Friday, June 26, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life was held at the Bruce Township Community Centre, Underwood, Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bonnie Holliday officiating. Memorial donations to the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation “Hospital Campaign”, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
