HENRY LAWRENCE CLARK

February 3, 2025

Henry Lawrence Clark of Lucknow died peacefully at the Wingham and District Hospital, Feb. 3, 2025, with his loving wife of 63 years by his side. He was 83. Born June 26, 1941, Henry grew up on the outskirts of Lucknow, and lived there his entire life. He often joked that he had lived his whole life on one road. At a young age, he began his working career helping local farmers before getting his first job with Looby Construction. He then worked at Silverwood’s Dairy in Lucknow for more than 20 years until its closure before taking the job of road superintendent in Kinloss Township. He worked at the township until his retirement in 1999. In his retirement, Henry enjoyed a bit of travel, hunting and fishing and was always ready for a game of cards and a shot of Crown Royal. He was a dedicated member of the Lucknow Legion, Branch 309, first becoming a member in 1975. He served as president for two terms and was an executive member for many years after that. In 2008, he was awarded a life membership to the Legion, one of its highest honours. He was a staple at the Legion for many afternoons throughout the years, always open for a chat. Henry leaves behind his devoted wife, Ethel (Middleton); as well as his two sons, Arthur (Kandra) and Lawrence (Donna). Dearly missed by his grandchildren, Courtney (Jamael) Jacklin and Chris (Brianna) Clark; and great-grandchild, Daniel Jacklin. Fondly remembered by his siblings, Leonard (Wilma) Clarke, Jim (Lorraine) Clark and Dorothy Foxton; as well as his in-laws, Alice, Lila, Ruth, Margaret, Retta, Lillian (Ken), Norman, Kenneth, Sheila and Edna Middleton; and countless nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Alice Clark; daughter, Julia Ann, in infancy; sister, Eleanor (Jim) Gibson; and in-laws, Leonard, Glen, Leith, Betty, Garry, Allen, Larry, Sharon and Rose Middleton, Conrad Pompies, Gerrit VanSligtenhorst, Tom Young and Doug Knocker. Visitation will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. A Legion service will take place at 7 p.m., following visitation. The funeral will be held at the funeral home chapel, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at 11 a.m., Marilynne Gilchrist officiating. Spring interment, South Kinloss Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Lucknow Legion, Branch 309, or the Alzheimer Society, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
