Evelyn Margaret Elliott (nee Pollock) of Ripley, died peacefully, surrounded by love, Thursday, April 24, 2025, in her 102nd year. Beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Elliott who predeceased her in 2007. Lovingly remembered by her children, Nancy (John) Kelly, Mary Hamilton, Carol (Grant) Collins, Susan (Brian) MacDonald, Sally (Bryce Sibbick) Martin, John (Jane) Elliott and Janice (Greg) Wilhelm. Dearly missed by 19 grandchildren, John (Tracey) Kelly, Brian (Cristal) Kelly, Laurie Kelly, Angie (Jared) Patterson, Jennifer (Dwayne) Harder, Amy Hamilton, Christine (Eric) Barkey, Greg (Cayley) Collins, Stephanie (Habeeb) Syed, Jason MacDonald, Michael (Erin) Martin, Stephen (Julie) Martin, David (Jessica) Martin, Bradley (Karen) Martin, Stacy Elliott, Becky (Evan) Cohoon, Troy (Samantha) Elliott, Kaitlyn (Jess) Threndyle and Kyle (Holly) Threndyle. Evelyn was overjoyed to welcome the next generation of 34 great-grandchildren.
Also survived by her sister-in-law, Lois Hackett. Predeceased by two sons-in-law, Donald Martin and Paul Hamilton; sister Doris (Cecil) Hollands; and in-laws, Jean (Gordon Farrell), Eileen (Doug) MacDonald, Marjorie (George) Johnson and Roy Elliott. Evelyn was born on the family farm just west of Pine River before becoming a teacher. She and Jack took over the farm where they lived until building a new home down the road in 1979. She was a devoted member of Bethel United Church, the UCW, and Reid’s Corners Women’s Institute. For many years, she contributed the “Bethel News” to the local weekly newspapers. Home and family were so important to Evelyn, and she welcomed everyone with her infectious smile. She entertained the grandchildren with games, stories and songs, singing “You Are My Sunshine” right up to the end. The family thanks the staff at Rosewood RVilla in Ripley, Trillium Court Seniors’ Community in Kincardine, and Dr. Gary Gurbin for their care over the years. Also thanks to the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home for the compassion and support. Visitation will be held Monday, April 28, 2025, from 5-8 p.m., at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley. There will be a private family service, with interment to follow in Kincardine Cemetery.
