NORMAN (NORM) ALEXANDER BLAIR

June 9, 2025

Norman (Norm) Alexander Blair of Kincardine died peacefully, Monday, June 9, 2025, at Trillium Court Seniors’ Community, Kincardine, in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife, Rae (nee Parker); brothers, Allan and John; brothers-in-law, Jack Parker and Edwin Parker; and his parents, Ed and Muriel (nee Fynney) Blair. Survived by his children, Brian (Brenda) Blair of Port Franks, and Kathy (Wayne) Vance of Kincardine. Proud Grandfather of Becky, Nicole (Matt), Jaclyn (Derek), Ryan (Carolyn), Heather (Jarrett), and Kyle; and Great-Grandfather of Raelyn, Colden, Owen, Griffin, Maggie, Abbey, Scarlett and Azalea. Missed by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Parker of Brampton and Kathy Blair of Georgetown. Norm was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Toronto. The Blair family moved to Huttonville in the early 1940s, and the farm became a gathering place for many years for family and friends. This is where he learned the apple and strawberry businesses and the family plastering business. He loved lacrosse when he grew up, winning the Minto Cup with Brampton in 1952. Coaching the Kincardine Juvenile lacrosse team proved to be an experience we will all remember. In 1952, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, with the intention of serving in North Korea. He was, however, assigned to Germany. While there, he took his leave time to tour several European countries. He was Kincardine’s oldest Legion member, and he always looked forward to Remembrance Day. After moving from Georgetown in 1974, Norm started a drywall business in Kincardine. He quickly became well-known in the area for his quality workmanship. This served him well when he did plaster repairs to the Knox Presbyterian Church ceiling. Norm was most at home fishing on Lake Huron. A trip on the lake was always an exciting adventure with him. Losing a fish on the line was not acceptable! Dad always enjoyed watching college football and professional baseball on television. A trip to a Michigan State football game was a highlight for him. Recently, he gave up watching sports; he stated, “Sports are nothing but big business now.” During their early retirement years, Norm and Rae took several trips to Australia and New Zealand. Those trips were savoured, and he particularly enjoyed fishing for trout with his cousin in New Zealand. Friends and relatives are invited to the visitation, Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the service at 12 p.m., at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine. Reception to follow. A live-stream of the service is available through Norm’s memorial page. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held in the Kincardine Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine, would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
