VERA HANVEY (CAMPBELL)
January 5, 2026
Vera Hanvey (Campbell) of Kincardine, mother, sister and grandmother, died peacefully, Jan. 5, 2026, after a long battle with illness, at the age of 84. Beloved mother of Julie (Chris) Durocher and Peter Hanvey. Incredibly proud and cherished Nanny of Jared Durocher. Vera is survived by her brothers and sisters in Northern Ireland, Billy, Sandra (Brendan), Rosaleen (Wilson), Desmond (Lucy), Stanley, and Ann. She is reunited with her parents, William (Sonny) and Annie Campbell; her brothers, Ivan (late Avril), and Roy; sister, Dereena (Ron); and her Aunt Nellie. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Jayne MacQuarrie (late John), and her family; and her godson, Philip McDowell, and wife, Debbie, and their family. Vera is survived by many nieces and nephews and she loved and adored Abbie and Sophie, her great-nieces. Born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Vera moved to Canada in 1975 and settled in Kincardine in 1977. She was kind, smart, funny and always organized. Vera volunteered for many organizations in Kincardine, especially the Canadian Cancer Society for 25-plus years, the Clothes Hamper for more than 30 years, the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey, March of Dimes and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She loved to fire the starter’s pistol to begin the annual Terry Fox Run. She enjoyed reading, music and dancing, a hot cup of tea, and never said no to a date square or anything chocolate. She was always well-dressed and well-accessorized. She loved to shop for anything, and enjoyed a good British murder mystery and a cold rye-and-ginger to go with it. Vera had the ability to make friends anywhere and shared the laughter and friendship of many. She fiercely loved her family all her life. The family thanks the Village at St. Clair for its care, love and compassion in the Amherstburg neighbourhood, and the friendship of Lynda Thacker. Vera’s kindness, strength, and spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who loved her. Sleep well, Mum, and look over us until we meet again. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey or Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; May the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
