Allan Edwin Hackett of Lucknow died Oct. 5, 2019, in Wingham at the age of 87. Beloved husband of the late Margaret (Phillipson), and special friend of Gladys Hamilton. Born Dec. 15, 1931, in Ashfield Township, he was the son of the late Matilda and Thomas Hackett Jr. Dear father of Steven and Marjorie Hackett of Lucknow, Larry Hackett and Kim Colling of Huron-Kinloss, Cheryl and Pat Beasley of ACW, Gail and Steve McPherson of Huron-Kinloss, and Janice Hackett and Jim Dievel of Ayton. Missed by his 27 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and all of Gladys' family. Survived by his sisters, Lois Cunningham of Goderich, Joyce Elphick of Lucknow, Kathleen Atworth of St. Thomas, and Freda Langton of B.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter-in-law Katie Hackett; brother, Don; sister, Donalda Jamieson; and brother, Barry. Allan was the long-time business owner of Hackett Farm Equipment in Lucknow, which spanned four generations of ownership in the Hackett family. Community-minded, he was a 30-year member of the Lucknow Lions Club, sat on the Lucknow Community Centre Board for 25 years, and coached minor hockey for many years. He was still able to find time to volunteer as a firefighter with the Lucknow Fire Department.. Above all, he loved his family. Visitation will be held at the Lucknow United Church, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, from 6-9 p.m., and Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, from Noon until the funeral at 1 p.m. Interment, Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. Memorial donations to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation or Huron Bruce Minor Hockey, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. |
