BONNIE JEAN ACKERT (nee FISHER)

Bonnie Jean Ackert (nee Fisher) died peacefully, Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at the age of 74. Beloved wife of Ernest Ackert for 53 years. Dear mother of Jeff and Tracy Ackert of Port Elgin, Becky and Jairus Maus of Paisley, and Mary and David Moss of Waterloo. Much-loved Grandmother of Jacob and Joey Ackert, Lauren, Emily and Cameron Maus, and Hudson and Anderson Moss. Bonnie will also be missed by her mother, Isabel Fisher of Palmerston; her sister, Nancy & Dr. Rae Fischer of Listowel; her sister-in-law, June Shouldice of Shallow Lake; and her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father, Bert Fisher of Atwood; her in-laws, Raynard and Hilda Ackert and Caroline Ackert; and her brother-in-law, Rob Shouldice. Bonnie grew up in Atwood, and graduated from the Stratford School of Nursing in 1966. After being introduced to a handsome farmer from Holyrood, she married Ernest Ackert and they began their married life at Hilray Farms. They were blessed with three children and enjoyed farm life until a change of scenery to Port Elgin in the late 1980s. She was always a gracious support to Ernest and his business endeavours. Retirement years were enjoyed thoroughly on the beach - between south Florida and at home in Lurgan Beach. Bonnie's life was long and happy. She experienced great love, adventure, and the joy of family and friends. The final chapter of her story involved the challenges of Alzheimer Disease. With the support of her family, the Alzheimer's Society, and the incredible compassion of her caregivers at Highview Residences Dementia Home in Kitchener, Bonnie was able to end her time on earth the way that she lived it - with dignity and grace. Visitation will be held at Pine River United Church, Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, from 2-4 p.m.,and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Pine River United Church. Internment, Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. Donations to the Pine River United Church or the Grey-Bruce Alzheimer’s Society, would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
