Sophie Schneyderberg (Hoogland) died peacefully, with grace and dignity, Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at the age of 98. She was under the kind and capable care of the Kincardine hospital’s palliative care unit, having spent the years since Tony’s passing, in the comfortable care of Tiverton Park Manor. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Anthony (Tony) Gerard Schneyderberg. Survived by her sisters, Theresa, of Saskatoon, and Maria, of Holland. Devoted mother of Tony (Diane) Schneyderberg of Orangeville, Maria (Ron) Kerslake of Medicine Hat, Chris (Brenda) Schneyderberg of Toronto, Angela (Steve) Rostad of Medicine Hat, and Cindy (Dave) Bruggeman of Kincardine. Cherished grandmother of Steve (Karen) Schneyderberg, Jeff (Michaela) Schneyderberg, Pamela (Scott) Balkwill, Jessica (Andrew) Dahmer, Jay (Casey) Kerslake, Amy (Willy) Hollett, Andy (Jen) Kerslake, Charity Schneyderberg, Danny Schneyderberg, Jeremy (Chasidy) Schneyderberg, Shawn Schneyderberg, Taralee (Chris) Rostad, Jesse Rostad, Jacquie (James) Bruggeman and Cameron (Iryna) Bruggeman. Treasured great-grandmother of Connor (Tori), Jeremy, Garrett, Eric, Myles, Matthew, Tyler, Tayah, Alexis, Jordan, Jacob, Jasmine, Wyatt, Everett, Seeger, Mason, Jonah, Julie, Emily, Gracie and McKenna. Beloved great-great-grandmother of Olivia. Born Nov. 18, 1921, in Voorburg, Holland, Sophie was seven months pregnant when Tony sailed to Canada to prepare the way for her. Along with her newborn and two other children, she followed shortly after to Stratford, in 1953, where she set up house for Tony and their three, then four, then five children. Upon retirement, Tony and Sophie toured “this great country” from coast-to-coast. In 1997, Tony and Sophie moved to Kincardine where they enjoyed daily walks by the lake, and where she swam marathons in the local pool twice a week, well into her 90s. Mom, when Dad passed away, you told us that he, maybe, was going ahead, again, to prepare a place for you. Sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, we love you and miss you, but we know that you are where you finally want to be … with the man you love, in your little cottage by the sea. God bless you both. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, from 5-8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Kincardine, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at 11 a.m., with Father Thomas Manninezhath as celebrant. Interment to follow at the Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
