ROBERT "BOB" MURRAY FORREST

Robert “Bob” Murray Forrest of Kincardine, died at the Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, Monday, July 6, 2020, in his 69th year, with his sister by his side. He fought a difficult battle with lung cancer for several weeks and his family will never forget his stamina and strong will to live through all the challenges he faced. Survived by his daughters, Jessica Young, Sarah MacKenzie, and Rachel (Jon) MacKenzie; sisters, Darlene (Brad) Cann, Dale (Dennis) Willis, and Maureen (Howard) Kortz; nephews, Connor and Jacob Cann, Cameron and Brendan Willis; nieces, Sandra (Patrick) Martin, Shauna (Shaun) Kortz, and Kristin (Murray) Stewart; and, great-nieces Mary Martin and Grace Stewart. Predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Barbara; and his parents, Vern and Mary Forrest. Bob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent his childhood summers at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods. He enjoyed a long career as a highly-respected technician in the electric power generation field, first with Manitoba Hydro and then with Bruce Power in Kincardine where he worked for 27 years. He also operated his Forrest Electric and Gas Service for many years. He loved to work and after enjoying some retirement, he worked as an HVAC (heating and air-conditioning) technician for Edward Fuels for the past last six years. He was passionate about doing work that was safe and precise, and he was always there to help his family members when they were in need of his expertise. Since 2003, Bob was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, MacDonald Branch 183, Kincardine, serving in many positions, including president and youth education chairman. In 2015, he proudly received a Legion life membership, with many of his family present. He tirelessly contributed his knowledge and skills to numerous renovations and projects at the Legion, and was especially proud of the project to replace the crosses on the veterans' graves at the Kincardine Cemetery. Bob loved history, especially war history, and travelled to various commemorative sites in Canada, the United States and Europe. He was very knowledgeable, and the odds were wholly stacked against his family members when they played Trivial Pursuit. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers throughout the South Bruce Grey Health Centre system, and the home health care team who cared for Bob, and who were kind to our family. We are also very grateful to Mike, Natalie and the staff at McKechnie Pharmacy for the extra time they gave Bob, and the care and kindness they showed to him and our family. Bob was fortunate to have many physicians and nurses who were focused on giving him the best chance to fight this disease. Thank you to all of them. At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when it is considered safe to gather.
