BARRETT "BARRY" ORR BOOK

July 21, 2020

Barrett “Barry” Orr Book of Kincardine died peacefully at home, surrounded by his immediate and loving family, July 21, 2020, following a long illness and courageous battle with cancer. He was 88. Born in Brantford, he enjoyed an active and athletic childhood. He went to Brantford Collegiate Institute, quarterbacking the football team to the Western Ontario Championship, and excelling at track and field. Later in life, he became an avid golfer. He attended the University of Buffalo School of Engineering and spent most of his career with Hauserman Ltd., rising initially from sales associate to Canadian vice-president and general manager. Barrett’s greatest asset, aside from being a dedicated husband and father, was his ability to create lasting, meaningful, and life-long relationships across a wide circle of friends. These dear friends became family, through Barrett’s warm, humorous, and welcoming nature. Friends from his youth, from his home in Mississauga, and from his cottage and eventual home in Inverhuron, near Kincardine, found Barrett a joy to be with, bringing happiness and laughter to everyone around him. All who knew him were, and are, so much better for the experience. He would often say how very fortunate he was to have met such wonderful friends who became, with his family, such an important part of his life. Barrett is predeceased by his devoted parents, Lloyd and Ina Book; and his daughter-in-law, Diane Book. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Book (née Malcolm); son, Barrett Book; and daughters, Suzanne Book and husband, Randy MacArthur; and Jennifer Zych and husband, Kevin; as well as his grandchildren, Stephen Book and Lauren Fitzgerald, Johnathan and Allison Book, Jenny Mae and Pierce Britt, Alex Zych, Jake Zych, and Daniel MacArthur; and great-grandchildren, Ruby Fitzgerald-Book and Rowen Britt. Sincere thanks to Dr. Jason Murray, and VON nurses Laura Elphick and Rachel Elliot, for their kind and compassionate care and support of Dad and our family. Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy; and can be made through the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, 519-396-2701.
