Herbert "Herb" Ernst Paetzold of Tiverton, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Peggy Griffin. Dearly missed by his children, Michael, Christopher, Tammy, Lawrence, Thomas and Tabatha, as well as his sons- and daughters-in-law, Marian, Randy, Chris, Tammy, Mia and Michael. Loving grandfather of Melinda (Ben), Natasha (Bryce), Gabriella, Olivia, Sierra, Cole, Tristan, Samantha, Calleigha and Cayden; and great-grandfather of Landon, Christopher and Holly. Predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Marga Paetzold. Herb was employed by Bruce Power until his retirement in 2004. He was known as the go-to man when anyone at the plant needed something fixed. This, of course, carried over to the family. He was a very active person throughout his lifetime. He was a life member of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, holding numerous positions over many years. Herb joined the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Central and Arctic Regions, July 16, 1987, and was one of the founding members of Blue Water Rescue. He was a captain on two different vessels over the years, the “Mysis” being the most recent. During this time, he spent hundreds of hours training and taking calls from the Joint Rescue Co-ordinator Centre (JRCC) in Trenton to help people in trouble on Lake Huron. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, MacDonald Branch 183, Kincardine. Over the years, he held positions on the executive but he mainly supported the Legion in the kitchen, helping with many, many catering events. Herb always had a smile on his face, and was willing to help anyone who needed assistance. One of his favourite sayings was, “If all else fails, read the manual.” He was methodical and took great pride in any work/project he did. He had so much knowledge that there was rarely a task he could not complete fully on his own. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Herb's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Blue Water Rescue Inc. or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy; arrangements entrusted to the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine; www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com/. |
