Harold Murray Tuck of Kincardine died peacefully at home, Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, after a courageous battle with metastatic esophageal cancer. He was 67. Born and raised in Toronto, he studied business at Ryerson, got married in Scotland, worked for most of his life in the electronics industry and later at myFM 95.5 in Kincardine. Harold loved music - rock, pop, classical, blues, jazz, choral - he had a huge vinyl collection because “nothing else sounded as good.” He never missed an episode of “Jeopardy” or a Formula 1 race (he even went to the F1 race in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on his honeymoon). He loved to travel, was an avid photographer, loved his cats, grew orchids for a hobby, and on occasion enjoyed a good single-malt scotch. His favourite movie was “It's a Wonderful Life” (the original version only!) - he'll now have his own wings. The happiest moment of his life was when our daughter, Isabel, came into our lives. He was a devoted father and so proud to see her graduate from Waterloo University this year. We were foster parents to 11 children over the years, prior to adopting Isabel, and Harold wholeheartedly took on the role of dad. He helped with homework, went camping, taught them to swim, took them on outings to the Toronto Zoo and Ontario Place. For a brief while in their lives, these children knew what it meant to have a father who really cared about them. He was a man of his word and had great integrity. In his later years, he had a strong faith in God. He was honest to a fault, always direct and never minced his words - that was one of the things we loved most about him. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humour (okay, maybe a few too many dad jokes!). Harold will be sadly missed by his wife, Rose; daughter, Isabel; his elderly aunt, Margie Tuck; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Andrea MacArthur and Janet and Robert King; nieces and nephews here and many in the United Kingdom, Tammy (Whitney), Julia and Jacen; Murray; John (Julie) Alice, John, Luke; Diane (Mark) Iona Rose; Deborah (David) Arran, Calum; Esther (Helen), Loughlan; Iain (Sally); Christine (Phillip) Kenna; his long-time childhood best friends, Ed Oliver, Bill Sweet and Tom Low; and many cousins in Ontario, British Columbia, and abroad. Predeceased by his parents, Harold Robert Tuck of Toronto, and Catherine Murray of Halifax, Nova Scotia, both later of Kincardine; his brother, Frank; his mother- and father-in-law, Anne and John MacArthur of Tiree, Scotland; and his brother-in-law, John. Thank you to so many people: To the community nurses (especially Laura and Kylie) and to Dr. Damian Gunaratne for making it possible for Harold to be cared for at home. To dear friends who helped out, Eric Watson who drove him to London for treatments many times, Mel Smillie who also helped with driving, and a huge thanks to Bill Subject for all the times he came to clear snow, cut grass, and fix anything that needed fixing when Harold was too sick to do anything himself. To everyone who sent meals, casseroles, to Louise for her chocolate chip muffins (Izzy's absolute favourites), all those who gave us gift certificates, especially for West Coast Catering as Harold so enjoyed Alex's soup when he had difficulty swallowing because of his cancer, for all the cards, calls, messages, prayers and hugs. As per Harold's wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no formal funeral service due to COVID-19 concerns. Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a charitable donation in memory of Harold, his request was for donations to Allies for Alley Catz, a local cat rescue. He also said just ask people to be kind, to care about one another, get vaccinated if you can (well he didn't exactly put it like that!), wear your mask, pay it forward, and be decent human beings. Harold loved to sing - by now, he'll be singing the Hallelujah Chorus with the best choir ever and know that his Redeemer lives. Grief is the cost of love. He was loved deeply, he will be missed greatly, and will remain in our hearts forever. Family is requesting privacy at this time. |
